HackerLab 9000 (I call it hal9k) will be a self-contained virtual hacker lab, capable of simulating dozens of systems on multiple interconnected networks.

The entire lab will be hosted on a single workstation. Lab users will be able to access the lab network via WiFi or ethernet. While connected, they will have access to the vulnerable lab systems, and also to the Internet (if the host is online). However, the vulnerable lab systems will not have access to the Internet. This protects against introducing vulnerabilities into a parent network.

  • WiFi guests will have IPs in the 10.0.0.0/24 range.
  • Ethernet guests will have IPs in the 10.0.1.0/24 range.
  • Lab VMs will have IPs in the 10.1.1.0/24 range.

If, in the future, I add additional lab subnets, I’d add them as 10.1.2.0/24 and 10.1.3.0/24, and so on.
